Understanding the Protection Levels

EN388:2016 tests the sleeve against mechanical risks.

Its performance rating is 4X4XD:

• 4 – Abrasion resistance: Level 4
• X – Circular blade cut resistance: Not tested or not applicable
• 4 – Tear resistance: Level 4
• X – Puncture resistance: Not tested or not applicable
• D – Straight blade cut resistance: Level D according to EN ISO 13997

The Level D rating indicates a high level of resistance to straight blade cutting. However, no cut resistant garment can eliminate every workplace hazard, so the sleeve should always be selected and used according to the specific risks present.

In addition, the sleeve carries an EN407:2004 rating of X1XXXX, including Level 1 contact heat resistance.
